If there is a king of the medium van segment, the Ford Transit Custom has spent much of the last decade wearing the crown. Consistently one of Britain's best-selling commercial vehicles, it combines the practicality tradespeople demand with the driving manners of a large family car. This 2019 Transit Custom 300 EcoBlue Limited Automatic demonstrates exactly why it remains the benchmark against which rivals are judged. Powered by Ford's 2.0-litre EcoBlue diesel engine producing 130PS, this particular model sits in the sweet spot of the range. It offers enough performance to cope comfortably with a full payload without incurring the higher purchase and running costs associated with the more powerful variants. Paired with Ford's six-speed automatic gearbox, it delivers a relaxed and effortless driving experience that feels perfectly suited to modern urban and motorway use. Pulling away, the EcoBlue engine is smooth and surprisingly refined for a working van. Low-down torque is plentiful, making it easy to maintain momentum in traffic or when carrying tools and equipment. The automatic transmission shifts unobtrusively and removes much of the fatigue associated with stop-start driving. While it won't set any performance records, the 130PS engine provides more than enough pace for everyday commercial duties. What continues to impress is the way the Transit Custom drives. Ford's engineers have succeeded in creating a van that genuinely feels composed and car-like from behind the wheel. The steering is precise, body roll is well controlled and motorway stability is excellent. Even on challenging British roads, the suspension strikes an impressive balance between comfort and load-carrying capability. The Limited trim level elevates the Transit Custom beyond basic commercial transport. Externally, body-coloured bumpers, alloy wheels, chrome detailing and LED daytime running lights give the van a smart, professional appearance. It's a vehicle that looks equally at home parked outside a corporate office or a construction site. The 2019 Ford Transit Custom 300 EcoBlue Limited Automatic remains one of the finest all-round commercial vehicles available on the used market. It combines excellent road manners, impressive practicality and a well-equipped cabin into a package that genuinely enhances day-to-day working life. More than simply a tool for transporting cargo, the Transit Custom feels engineered around the needs of the driver. Comfortable, capable and easy to live with, it continues to set the standard in the medium van sector and explains why so many businesses return to Ford time and time again.
